Language icons

Every year, many people in the Flemish area around Brussels attend Dutch courses. They often seek out activities, courses and workshops in Dutch to practise the language. For this reason, many activities and events are marked with language icons.  

What do the language icons mean?

One language icon
You don’t speak or understand much or any Dutch as yet, but you’d still like to take part in an activity, workshop or course. You can. If you see a single language icon, you can join in without a problem.

Two language icons
You understand a bit of Dutch already, but aren’t comfortable speaking it yet. Activities, courses or workshops with two language icons are best for you.

Three language icons
You understand Dutch fairly well and can speak a little yourself. You do still make mistakes or need a bit of help occasionally. You can participate in activities, courses or workshops with three language icons.

Four language icons
You speak and understand Dutch well. You understand the language with little effort. You can participate in any activity. However, those activities, courses and workshops with four language icons will be the most suitable for you.
