Is living alone no longer possible? Other living options are available to you.

Assisted living is a type of housing adapted to the needs of older people. The intention is to encourage people to stay in their own home environment for longer and help support this. Assisted living isn’t just any flat or apartment. If a resident needs support, the Public Social Welfare Centre makes sure this is provided. That can be home care, home nursing or meals delivered to your home.

A day centre is a centre providing daytime care for people of an advanced age who still live in their own home. They need this care because they can no longer do as much themselves. They receive support in their day-to-day lives. This eliminates or delays the need for a move to a residential care home. Day centre visitors maintain maximum independence. A day centre is a secure, cosy environment that encourages social contacts and skills.

If living alone is no longer possible, you can move to a care home. Carers and nurses look after the residents there.
